Welcome to This Old Southern House

Hey ya'll!!

Welcome to This Old Southern House.  I've bought a mid-century classic ranch style home.  It was built by my grandparents in 1971.  The house is outdated with shag carpeting, dark paneling, and boxy rooms.  Over the course of the next year, I'll be renovating the house and telling all about it here.  I'm a novice at best when it comes to home renovations, but I've got a lot of help from friends and family that do know what they are doing.  I've found the biggest part of tackling any project is understanding what you can and can't do and knowing when to ask for help.  There is always someone somewhere that has more knowledge about something (I never have made the claim to know everything, but I do know something about everything...haha!).

I've bought this house, and my goal is to reuse as much as possible while creating an updated look that is comfortable and warm for everyone.  I want to throw away as little as possible.  I'm not doing this because I'm all about "green"; I'm doing this because I'm cheap and you should be, too.  Your money is your money.  There is no sense in throwing something away that has a perfectly good purpose reused (which in turn, saves me money).  I'll detail every step, and I'll even tell you how much it cost and how much time it took (I will try to refrain from telling you how many dirty words I say during the process).

During remodeling, I'll also be going along the way looking for items to furnish the house.  I already have several items given to me by my parents.  I've also got other family members that have given me furniture and furnishings that have been passed through the family through generations.  I want a house full of stories...not random store bought things.  Life is full of stories, and everything and everyone should have a story worth telling.

Warm Southern Days,
Russ
